The first World Friendship Day was proposed for 30 July in 1958. International Friendship Day is a day created to encourage friendships and bridge the gaps within race, color, religion and other circumstances which keep humans from enjoying friendship with one another. Today is such a global society it is imperative that the leaders of tomorrow, respect include and understand world diversity. International Friendship Day was declared by the United Nations in 2011 with the intent of building communities and helping move towards world peace.
The United Nations helps the Government, Organizations and groups to host activities and events that promote dialogue, acceptance and understanding between people of various backgrounds. Internation Friendship Day was initially observed on July 30th but now celebrated on the first Sunday of August.
